Monica Burguera Foundation
The Monica Burguera Foundation is dedicated to saving lives and making our waters safer by promoting watercraft safety and boater education. Through a combination of community education, outreach and vents, the Foundation works to prevent boating accidents and deaths like the one that took the life of young Monica Burguera in 2006.
The Monica Burguera Foundation, in conjunction with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, offers free boating safety classes as a public service for the local community. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the largest volunteer marine safety organization in the world has fostered similar classes overseas. Since the program started in September 2010, more than 3,000 students have successfully completed the program and been awarded the USCG Auxiliary Certificate of Accomplishment and a Florida Boating Safety Identification card, which is required to operate a boat for people born on or after January 1, 1988.
Free boating safety classes are offered throughout the year. Classes are an all-day program that cover: Introduction to Boating, Boat Handling, Boating Problems, Trailering, Legal Requirements, Personal Safety, Navigation, Radiotelephone, Water Sports and State Requirements.
