Anglers Opening Doors for Children Raises $17,000 for the Dan Marino Foundation

Saturday, February 16, 2008 was a very special day for the Big Game Room. We celebrated five years of success with a special reception, open to everyone, to honor the exhibitors and celebrities who have supported us for five consecutive years. Attendees enjoyed a dinner buffet, and an open bar compliments of Centerplate at the Marlin Bar along with live music by Pluto and entertainment by the Mermaids, the Florida Marlins Dance Team. The highlight of the evening was a silent and live auction benefiting the Dan Marino Foundation. The evening, entitled "Anglers Opening Doors for Children," was hosted by South Florida radio personality, "Footy." Items donated for auction included a fishing trip with Captain Bouncer Smith; a custom carved table by Bluewater Signatures; a mounted sailfish signed by Dan Marino, Don Shula and many others; entries into two South Florida fishing tournaments, the Florida Billfish Masters Tournament and the World Sailfish Championship. Also available was a Hawaiian Circle Hook sculpture donated by David Wirth; a signed Guy Harvey print along with a case of Guy Harvey Wine; a Zodiac Inflatable; and an all day fishing trip with Captain Larry Berryman. Various sports memorabilia including a tennis ball autographed by Andre Agassi and a jersey signed by Pittsburgh Penguins great, Mario Lemieux were also auctioned. Big Game Room Hall of Fame Reception

Bouncer Please join us as Capt. Bouncer Smith is inducted into the 2008 Big Game Room Hall of Fame on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Bouncer is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the sport of big game fishing.

Marlin Bar and Lounge

Located in room B 214 near the Big Game Room Seminar Stage, the Marlin Bar and Lounge is the meet and greet place in the Big Game Room. Enjoy happy hour every day from 5–6 p.m. where show staff will give out special promotional items donated by our exhibitors and sponsors. Meet your friends, relax, have a drink and share your favorite fish stories.

Filet Station

Join Vince Russo at the Fillet Station, space 2114 in Room B 210. Vince will be giving mouth watering demonstrations daily on how to fillet and cook your fish after they've been caught.

Offshore Adventures Gourmet Galley Cookbook

Follow the journey of the crew of the "Go Fisch" as they explore the Baja Peninsula, Southeast Alaska and Central America. Filmed from seasons 8 and 9 in 2006, these recipes are tested, tried and sure to please. This cookbook also includes a DVD. Chef David Olsen will be on hand on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. with a book signing and cooking demonstrations.

Entertainment by Pluto

Pluto Shervington, also know as Pluto, is a reggae musician born in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a talented bass guitarist and singer. He is best known for his single, "Dat" and will be performing daily on the Big Game Room Seminar Stage from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. (5:30 on Thursday and Monday).

Exhibitor Prize Give Away

The exhibitor prize give away promotion will return for 2008 with new and exciting prizes donated by our Big Game Room Exhibitors. Drawings will be held hourly. Just stop by booth 2220A in room B 214 and fill out the entry form. This years donations include artwork by Karen Rhodes and Tony Ludovico, Lure packages from Legend Lures and Pro-Soft Lures, a 3 night stay at the Scrub Island resort in the Virgin Islands and much more.

Tour the Big Game Room

Once again attendees will have a chance to win a fine piece of jewelry from Churchwell's Jewelers by participating in the "Tour the Big Game Room" promotion. Pick up your tour card at the entrance to the Big Game Room, have it stamped by all of the participating exhibitors and drop it in the drum at the Churchwell's space 2211. The winner will be chosen on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.

Marlins Day with the Florida Marlins and the Mermaids Dance Team

Saturday, February 16, 2008 is Marlins Day at the Miami Boat Show. Tickets to the Florida Marlins opening week series against the Pittsburgh Pirates will be given away in the Big Game Room. You'll see Billy the Marlin and two special performances by the Mermaids, the Florida Marlins dance team on the Big Game Room stage at 2:45 and 4:45 p.m. The Mermaids will be available for autographs along with the Marlins wheel of prizes will be on Convention Center Drive during the Saturday evening block party from 3-8 p.m.

Florida Fishing Weekly to bring Prize Wheel to Big Game Room

The Florida Fishing Weekly booth # 2112 will feature its wildly popular Prize Wheel and special discounted subscription offers, along with premium giveaways. The prize wheel incudes fishing lures, line, hats, tackle and more and will cost $1.00 per spin. All proceeds will benefit the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. In only two previous boat shows, the prize wheel has earned donations totaling more than $5,000 for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Great fun for a great cause.
